Abstract: As the core classic of Chinese Confucian culture, the Anales of Confucius is translated into English to carry the im-portanttask of cross-cultural communication. Due to the extensive use of cultural metaphors and philosophical expressions in the original text of the Analects of Confucius, traditional translation theories are limited in dealing with deep cultural imagery. Based on the theory of cognitional translation and the theory of conceptual metaphor, this paper systematically analyzes the cog-nitivetypes and semantic structures of Confucian metaphors in the Analogies, and focuses on the differences in linguistic strat-egies,cognitive paths and cultural positions between the translations of James Legg and Gu Hong-ming. It is found that the two reffect the translator’s perception mechanism of “explicit logic transformation” and “experiential culture retention” respectively. Based on the analysis results, this paper proposes a three-stage strategy approach of metaphor translation: “recognition and com-mon-schemareconstruction-language embodiment”. The purpose of this study is to expand the theoretical perspective and prac-ticalparadigm of the translation of Confucian cultural classics, and enhance its expression and acceptance in the cross-cultural context.
